Hôtel Chais Monnet, France

An all-in-one destination for our first wine retreat, the region of Cognac in the south of France brings together winemakers, distillers, cellars and famed vineyards going back a century in one location. As the name suggest, the town is also the home of the famous Cognac, one of the most famous types of brandy made from the specific grape, Ugni blanc.

Just a few hundred meters from the center of Cognac, Hôtel Chais Monnet is the town’s first luxury hotel by French architect Didier Poignant. And if the stunning design and décor isn’t enough, then the hotel’s long history with the creation of Cognac and of the production and distribution of the drink should indeed win the guests over.

The hotel’s 92 rooms and suites, all sport a rustic, country-side atmosphere and feel. Spacious, bright – with a palette that limits itself to shades of crème and yellow, alongside accents of woods and leather – the accommodations are homely and comfortable, without holding back on the luxury.

Alongside the hotel’s extensive cellar – home to over 200 brands of spirits, the hotel boasts the Michelin-starred experience available at Les Foudres, a French Industrial Heritage Site, where Paolo Boscaro introduces guests to the culinary heritage of the region.

Hôtel Chais Monnet heavenly spa, housed in a large timbered building with 20 treatment rooms, an indoor pool and a steam room. Outside, a heated pool and a barrel-shaped hot tub take place of pride. The hotel is also the birthplace of vinotherapy, which are beauty treatments centered around grape seeds.

Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, Spain

Nestled at the heart of the historic Douro Valley in Spain, surrounded by over 700 acres of lush vineyard upon which a variety of grapes is grown for the production of local wine. This includes the ever-popular Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and even more niche crops dedicated to the production of Syrah and Petit Verdot. Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine truly brings guests to the very heart of Spanish viniculture!

The property itself is a 12th-century Romanesque Abbey that has been entirely renovated. Being set just outside the village of Sardon de Duero, some 2 hours from Madrid, the setting is not only visually stunning but the atmosphere is laid-back and easy.

The Abbey has only 27 rooms and 3 suites -all boasting a mix of medieval and contemporary minimalist aesthetics with vaulted ceiling and period furniture to make it an ideal, intimate retreat.

Villa La Coste, France

Found just 45 minutes from Marseille Airport, Villa La Coste brings you to the Provencal commune of Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, a destination where art and wine become one. Indeed, within its 600 acres of terraced vineyards, the hotel stands out as an architectural feat that uses the typical sandy palette of Provence to create an atmosphere that is both rustic and modern.

Made of stone and wood, the 28-villa property is filled with an impressive collection of artworks and  pièces uniques, while outside, the vineyards and gardens boast contemporary sculptures, specialised galleries, art boutiques, and even hosts public performances by a number of artists.

However, the plat de resistance is what lies at the heart of the estate. Discover Chateau La Coste, the epicenter of this viticultural destination. The estate is known for growing its red and wine grapes through bio-agriculture and even obtained the official label of “Agriculture  Biologique” in 2009. This ensures that the vineyards are operated in perfect harmony with nature. The Chateau offers a large selection that covers red, white, and rosé, that speaks of the diversity and richness of the terroir, which of course you can relish at the restaurants or during private tasting workshops.
