Originally opened as a pied-à-terre for the clientele of the Bon Marché department store, Hôtel Lutetia has always been a landmark of Saint-Germain-des-Prés... a place that has seen almost every layer of the history of 20th-century Paris pass by. Picasso and Matisse used to call it home, and Josephine Baker, who introduced the City of Light to the Jazz Age, was an habitué. The hotel is also one of the most beautiful in Paris, with a central salon under a colorful glass ceiling, and painstakingly recovered Romanesque frescoes at Bar Josephine.
