Hôtel Plaza Athénée

You could recognise the Plaza Athénée from the moon. Its crimson awnings and balconies overflowing with geraniums are as much a part of the Parisian landscape as the Eiffel Tower. A multifaceted aesthetic, blending hints of Versailles with Art Deco refinement, makes it the most distinctive luxury hotel on the Right Bank. Not far from the major Parisian galleries, it bridges the worlds of art, fashion – Monsieur Dior showed his first collection here in 1947 – and food, with three restaurants in which the 2003 World Pastry Champion Angelo Musa works his magic. Each key plays its own tune; draped in silks and fabrics with theatrical flair, they playfully reinterpret the codes of grand French mansions. Some feature a private wine cellar or a grand piano, whilst others boast terraces from which guests can take in the whole of Avenue Montaigne. Designed in 2014 by the Jouin Manku studio, the bar, all contemporary lines and sensual transparency, may not have welcomed Jean Gabin and Marlene Dietrich, who were regulars here, but it has hosted Rihanna during one Fashion Week.
