"We create with Mestiz wild objects & textiles, inpired by the Natural Surrondings & Cultural Syncretism of Mexico's Artisanal techniques."
Daniel Valero (b. 1988) is a Mexican architect and designer, and is the founder of Mestiz in 2015 with the aim to create distinctive pieces with a strong regional identity. His work is an examination of the symbiotic collaboration between designer and craftsman— intentionally blurring the line between both disciplines. He has been recognized with the National Furniture Award in 2014 in Mexico by Dimueble, and with the National Scholarship for Apply Arts in 2016 by FONCA to study the specialty of Textile Design at the École supérieure des Arts décoratifs in Paris.
This immersion begins at the studio of Daniel, where he will introduce the guests to his work and philosophy. After which, the guests will go to the best Mexican craft collection in Atotonilco, 10 min from San Miguel by car. There, the guests will have the opportunity of visiting the Atotonilco Chapel also called the “Mexican Sistine chapel”. The immersion is also available with a tour of the workshop of Mr Arroyo, a San Miguel-based craftsman best known for his work in the making of giant papier-mâché and fabric “puppets” called “mojigangas”.
